There are a lot of options for phone protection plans out there, but many people simply choose to take the one offered by their phone carrier.
So today, we’re answering the biggest question we get from Verizon customers: How does AKKO compare to Verizon’s mobile phone insurance? Let’s take a look – and before long, you’ll be ready to switch from Verizon Mobile Protect to AKKO.
Monthly Cost
Verizon Mobile Protect: $14-17 a month for a single device or $50 a month for three phones.
AKKO: Phone-only plans as low as $5 a month; the “Everything Protected” AKKO Plan is $15 a month ($12 for students), with discounts available for military veterans as well as annual and family plans.
Coverage
Besides your phone, the AKKO Plan protects up to 25 of your other valuables – including laptops and other electronics, sports gear, musical instruments, and much more.
The Verizon plan protects your phone. That’s it. You can also buy additional plans to protect smartwatches and tablets, but those monthly fees are going to add up fast.
Claims
Verizon Mobile Protect allows three claims per 12-month period as well as unlimited screen repairs.
All AKKO plans include unlimited claims. That’s right. Unlimited. You can break your phone 100 times (but please don’t).
Verizon advertises next-day replacement for your phone, but if you read the small print, you’ll find out that means they may send you a refurbished phone, and they don’t guarantee that it’ll be the same color or have the same features.
With AKKO, your repair and replacement choices are your own; we simply reimburse you the value of your exact old device, less the deductible. You can get the same phone again, switch to a different brand, put the money toward an upgrade – it’s your call.
Deductibles
Verizon Mobile Protect carries a $29 screen repair deductible, but it gets quite a lot more expensive if your phone needs to be replaced. Verizon’s deductibles rise in tiers all the way from $19 up to $249, depending on your device, with most of them at $129 or more. If you have, for instance, a newer iPhone, you’re looking at a $199 deductible, minimum.
On the other hand, AKKO’s deductibles range from $29 to $99, depending on your device.
To take just one example, let’s say that you have an iPhone 11 128GB. Not the most expensive phone, but not the cheapest either. And let’s say you bought the $17/month protection plan from Verizon, and over the course of that first year of ownership, something happens. Maybe it’s an accident, maybe it’s theft — bottom line, you need a new phone.
In this scenario, your one-year protection cost with one phone replacement under Verizon Mobile Protect comes out to a whopping $433 (12 months of $17 payments + a $229 deductible).
Meanwhile, with AKKO’s phone-only plan paid annually, your one-year cost to replace your iPhone under the same circumstances would be only $195 – less than half the cost of doing the same with Verizon! Even with AKKO’s most expensive plan, your one-year cost to replace your iPhone under the exact same circumstances would be $279 – and you’d also have protection for 25 other items!
That’s right: Our most expensive plan ends up saving you more than $150 versus the competition, and it’s far more comprehensive, and the claims are unlimited. That’s why so many Verizon Mobile Protect customers are switching to AKKO.
